Igniting Curiousity, Building Futures

Our journey began with a Middle School Robotics Teacher, teaching at a small Washington town. Using LEGO bricks she taught students how to build and program robots, opening doors to engineering, teamwork, and confidence many had never experienced before.

Outside of teaching she ran an after-school robotics team which competed in the FIRST Robotics Competitions. In a school where sports were the only extracurricular option, e program became a haven for kids who had never seen themselves as “the type” to join a club. For many, it was the first spark that inspired their pursuit of careers in STEAM.

Despite its success, the program was shut down. Not because students lost interest. Not because it wasn’t working. But because funding ran out.

That story isn’t unique. We heard it repeatedly across Washington, schools eager to offer meaningful enrichment, teachers desperate to give students more, and communities where cost alone kept kids from opportunities that could change their lives.

The Build to STEAM Foundation was created to change that.

We believe public education should be equitable, inspiring, and accessible. Every student, no matter their zip code, deserves programs that ignite imagination and build real‑world skills. But schools can’t do it alone. In underfunded and underserved communities, after‑school clubs are often too expensive to sustain, leaving countless students without a place to explore new opportunities and evolving technologies.

Our mission is simple: Bring high‑quality, LEGO‑powered STEAM programs to the communities that need them most, at a reduced cost or completely free.

With your support, we can reopen doors that should never have been closed. We can give students hands-on experiences that build confidence, creativity, and pathways to future careers. We can help teachers bring back the programs their kids still ask about.

Your donation doesn’t just fund a class. It builds a future.

Why LEGO?

LEGO isn’t just a toy it’s a powerful learning tool. Nearly every child recognizes it, feels comfortable with it, and knows instinctively that it’s something meant for play. That familiarity breaks down barriers and children are eager to interact with LEGO.

When students build with LEGO, abstract ideas become tangible. Math concepts like fractions, ratios, and patterns suddenly have shape and color. Engineering principles turn into hands‑on experiments. Problem‑solving becomes a game they want to win. LEGO bricks give students a way to see, touch, and test ideas that might otherwise feel intimidating or out of reach.

Most importantly, LEGO makes learning fun. Students walk into a Build to STEAM program already excited, already confident, already ready to try. That joy is the spark that keeps them engaged, encourages them to take risks, and helps them discover strengths they didn’t know they had.

We use LEGO because it opens doors—for creativity, for curiosity, and for futures in STEAM fields. It’s a simple tool that makes extraordinary learning possible.
